1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to ExpenseGenius. By accessing or using our mobile application and related services (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and ExpenseGenius ("we," "our," or "us"). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time, and your continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.

2. Service Description

ExpenseGenius is a personal finance management application that provides:

• AI-powered receipt scanning and expense tracking
• Automatic transaction syncing from connected financial accounts
• Spending analysis and financial insights
• Recurring expense management
• Transaction categorization and reporting

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice.

3. Account Registration and Eligibility

3.1 Age Requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to use ExpenseGenius. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• All activities that occur under your account
• Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
• Providing accurate and complete information when creating your account

3.3 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent, illegal, or abusive behavior.

4. Subscription and Billing

4.1 Pricing Plans

ExpenseGenius offers the following subscription tiers:

• Free: Manual expense entry with receipt scanning
• Starter ($3/month): Up to 1 connected financial account
• Pro ($5/month): Up to 2 connected financial accounts
• Premium ($7+/month): $5 base + $2 per additional account beyond 2

We reserve the right to change our pricing at any time. Existing subscribers will be notified at least 30 days before price changes take effect.

4.2 Billing

Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

4.3 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your credit card information. By providing payment information, you agree to Stripe's terms of service and privacy policy.

4.4 Cancellation and Refunds

• You may cancel your subscription at any time through the app or by contacting support
• Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period
• No refunds are provided for partial months or unused portions of a subscription
• If you downgrade your plan, the change takes effect at the next billing cycle
• Refunds may be issued at our sole discretion for technical issues or billing errors

4.5 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, we will attempt to charge your payment method again. If payment cannot be processed, your subscription may be suspended or canceled, and you may lose access to premium features.

5. Financial Account Connections

5.1 Third-Party Service

Financial account connections are facilitated through Stripe Financial Connections, a third-party service. By connecting your financial accounts, you agree to Stripe's terms of service and authorize us to access your transaction data.

5.2 Data Access

When you connect a financial account, you grant us read-only access to:

• Transaction history (up to 180 days initially)
• Account balances
• Account holder information

5.3 Account Limits

The number of financial accounts you can connect is determined by your subscription tier. Attempting to exceed your account limit will require upgrading your subscription.

5.4 Disconnecting Accounts

You may disconnect any financial account at any time. This will stop future transaction syncing but will not delete historical transaction data already imported into the app.

6. User Conduct and Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
• Violate any laws in your jurisdiction
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
• Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
• Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code
• Share your account credentials with others
• Use the Service to process transactions for others (business use requires separate agreement)

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Our Rights

All intellectual property rights in the Service, including software, designs, trademarks, and content, are owned by or licensed to Expense Genius. You may not use our intellectual property without prior written permission.

7.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you upload to the Service (receipts, notes, etc.). By uploading content, you grant us a license to use, store, and process it solely to provide the Service to you.

8. Data Accuracy and Financial Advice

8.1 No Financial Advice

ExpenseGenius is a tracking and analysis tool only. We do not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Insights and suggestions generated by the app are for informational purposes only and should not be considered professional advice.

8.2 Data Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy, we do not guarantee that:

• Transaction data synced from financial institutions is complete or error-free
• AI-extracted data from receipts is 100% accurate
• Categories assigned to transactions are always correct

You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all transaction data and categories.

9. Privacy and Data Protection

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your data.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

10.1 Service Availability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components.

10.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ExpenseGenius shall not be liable for:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, revenue, data, or use
• Errors or inaccuracies in transaction data or AI-generated insights
• Unauthorized access to or use of your account
• Service interruptions or technical failures

Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ExpenseGenius, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any rights of another party
• Your unauthorized or illegal activities

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

12.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12.2 Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration, except where prohibited by law. You waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will:

• Update the "Last Updated" date
• Notify you through the app or via email
• Provide at least 30 days' notice for material changes

Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
